DEN - Condolences Incoming on Transformation Strategy

At last, a demo in Denver, CO and no airplane to travel this week (except later to Iowa to see my parents, hang out with the overpopulation of mosquitoes due to the recent flooding, and work in the garden). It's hard driving to a demo in Denver believe it or not :) I don't usually drive, so it was fun to see downtown Denver.

The real blog topic of the day and every caller has offered their condolences about the recent Starbucks news and store closings. Well, it might be harder to get that Starbucks on my future travels no doubt about it. Being an investor still (can you believe it - why sell now???) and consumer of the product line, I believe "My Store" in Denver will be safe as it is the number one producer in it's region, along with the number two producer in it's region within 3 blocks from store number one. Amazing. I have to say there are 3 other stores with much lower volume within a 2 mile radius and I do see some downturn there somewhere.

My personal opinion is get rid of those silly Starbucks "Kiosks" in the Targets in the big cities! Give me a break. The machinery and coffee is never cleaned or prepared correctly. The employees in those stores never act like real Starbucks employees, nor can they make a drink worth a darn! Target and Starbucks need to separate which should cause that 600 store reduction in a heartbeat.

Thanks to all for your cards, letters, messages and calls in this time of great turmoil :)

LOL, I did think of you first when I heard that. :-) What about Pioneer Place in Portland though! Do they still have one on the first floor and the third floor?? Give me a break! I remember once leaving from Thanksgiving to New Years, and when I came back there were two new Starbucks on the walk from the office to the corporate apartment. Ahhh, the glory days! Happy 4th. Have some corn for me!

I agree 100% with the assessment that all kiosks, Safeway outlets, and many other mini-Starbucks stores should be the ones on the chopping block. Carey is also correct, if you can throw a muffin (purchased from Starbucks) and hit another Starbucks then one of those two locations should be a gonner...

On a more global note, it is quite amazing how NOT different Starbucks is in Paris. On my recent travels there was only one unique item in the whole store - an ugly monster cup that said Paris! No other merchandise could be had for my Starbucks devoted traveler. Alas, my apologies. The French obviously do not believe in the 'cart de credit' philosophy.
